Diagnostic assessment dates available for the Summer Term 2025
Enquires start with an initial telephone or zoom consultation to discuss the young person’s difficulties and parent’s concerns. There is no charge for this consultation and some difficulties may be addressed without further assessment.
Assessments are usually carried out in the young person’s home if they live within 3 miles of Bury St Edmunds or in Great Barton Village Hall and take approximately three hours.
A report will be written detailing the strengths and difficulties and if dyslexia is diagnosed. Recommendations will be made to support the young person at school and at home, and for them to develop a sense of metacognition.
All educational assessments are conducted and the report written in accordance with the SpLD Working Group 2005/DfES Guidelines for Assessment of SpLDs in Higher Education and subsequent updates.
Detailed information will be considered from school, the young person, and their family as part of the assessment process.
Schools can book assessments to support applications for exam access arrangements for students, in line with JCQ guidance, such as receiving extra time to complete exams or support from a reader.
Recommendations may involve referring on to other professionals such as a Community Paediatrician for further assessment to ensure the correct diagnosis is made.
The assessment can be used to support an application for the Disabled Students' Allowance (DSA) as well as exam access arrangements which form part of the young person’s normal way of working in school.
