I am a qualified independent educational assessor for specific learning difficulties including dyslexia. I am also a dyslexia specialist teacher for school age children in Suffolk, Norfolk and Cambridgeshire.
Dyslexia is a learning difficulty that can affect a person’s ability to read, write and spell. It is believed that more than 10% of the population have dyslexia, and as each person is unique it can affect people in different ways.
Dyslexia can have a significant impact on a person’s education or work life, and is a lifelong condition. It can also affect other skills such as organisation.
When a young person is not making progress at school or is not responding well to intervention, it is important to identify exactly where the areas of difficulty lie.
Educational assessment can pinpoint these and result in more effective strategies being tried. Someone with dyslexia may never overcome their difficulties but learning how to use the correct strategies to support their learning wherever that may be, is vital to a positive experience and necessary to reach their full potential.
Many individuals are often relieved to understand why they just ‘couldn’t get it’ or never made the progress despite all their hard work.
My services combine years of experience working in schools to support students with SEND along with the ability to assess and identify strengths and barriers.
I can offer full diagnostic assessments for dyslexia, make recommendations to students and their schools, and can collaborate with schools to apply for exam access arrangements such as extra time. I can also provide a shorter Literacy Assessment report where dyslexia is not diagnosed with recommendations for school.
